I can fdisk and format the CF card under DOS, but Linux / Solaris fails to mount the device?

This appears to be an issue related to the FAQ: Why does Windows XP show some CF cards as 'Removeable' and others as 'Hard Drives'?  Linux and Solaris appear to have problems when mounting a device that is labeled as 'removeable'. User's have informed us that correcting the removabililty of the media fixed their problem.
